Confidential Leadership Search
Senior and specialist hiring done with discretion.
For roles where a job posting won't reach the right people — we do direct market mapping, confidential outreach, and structured assessment to build shortlists that are actually worth reviewing.
Who it's for
Senior and specialist roles that need a search approach.
- —Companies hiring for Director, VP, Head of, or C-suite roles where discretion is important
- —Organisations replacing a senior leader without advertising the departure publicly
- —Companies entering a new market or function who need someone with specific domain authority
- —Boards or founders looking for a COO, CTO, CFO, or CHRO who is not actively job-seeking
- —PE or VC-backed companies building out a leadership team post-investment
- —Teams hiring for specialist roles — niche technology, domain expertise, or rare skill combinations — where a job posting produces zero relevant applications
What we handle
The full search cycle, handled carefully.
- —Confidential briefing — understanding the role, the organisation's current state, and the kind of leader or specialist needed
- —Market mapping — identifying people in India (and diaspora where relevant) who have held equivalent roles
- —Direct outreach — approaching individuals thoughtfully and confidentially, not via generic job applications
- —Preliminary assessment — structured conversations to evaluate fit before any profile is shared
- —Shortlist presentation — a small number of genuinely qualified candidates with detailed assessment notes
- —Interview design support — helping structure the process for senior-level candidates
- —Reference and background check coordination
- —Offer negotiation and joining support — senior candidates require more careful handling at offer stage
How it works
A structured search process, not a database query.
01
Confidential briefing
We hold a detailed briefing — either with the founding team, board, or relevant stakeholder. We discuss the strategic context for the hire, the reporting structure, what success looks like in year one, compensation range, and what has not worked in past hires for this role. This cannot be done by email alone.
02
Market mapping and outreach
We build a longlist of candidates who currently hold or have held equivalent roles in comparable organisations. We approach individuals directly and confidentially — explaining the opportunity without disclosing the client until appropriate. Passive candidates are the norm at this level.
03
Assessment and shortlist
We conduct structured conversations with candidates to assess experience, leadership approach, motivation for considering the role, and cultural fit. We present a shortlist of 3 to 5 candidates — each with a written assessment. We don't pad shortlists to appear busy.
04
Interviews, offer, and transition
We coordinate the client-side interview process, collect feedback, and manage the offer stage — which at senior levels involves longer negotiation windows and more careful handling. We stay involved through notice period and joining, including transition planning support if needed.
Why HRLent
What a good executive search looks like.
Discreet by default
We don't advertise executive mandates on job boards. The company is not named until both sides have agreed to proceed. Candidate identities are handled with the same discretion. We understand the reputational stakes of a poorly managed senior search.
Direct access to passive candidates
Most senior leaders and specialists are not applying to job postings. They need to be found and approached. Our search approach is direct — we map the market, identify individuals, and make considered outreach. We don't rely on application volume.
Small shortlists, not long ones
An executive shortlist of 15 profiles is not a shortlist — it's a dump. We present 3 to 5 candidates who we are confident are worth your time. Each comes with a written assessment, not just a CV. The goal is a decision, not more names.
India-market depth
We know the Indian leadership talent landscape — which cities have the right density of senior tech talent, what compensation expectations look like at different levels, and where the clusters of specialist expertise are. We're not guessing at a market we don't know.
FAQ
Common questions.
How long does an executive search typically take?
Most executive searches we run take 6 to 10 weeks from brief to shortlist. Senior roles below C-suite level (Directors, Heads of Function) are sometimes faster. We give a realistic timeline at intake and will tell you if we expect it to run longer based on the specific profile. We don't commit to timelines we can't keep.
Can you handle searches where the client identity must stay confidential?
Yes. We regularly manage searches where the hiring company cannot be named at the outreach stage — pre-IPO situations, leadership transitions, or competitive sensitivity. We position the opportunity without identifying the client until both parties agree to proceed.
How does executive search differ from permanent recruitment?
Executive search involves proactive market mapping and discreet outreach to passive leaders who are typically not actively looking at job boards.
How long does a leadership search take?
Typical executive searches conclude within 4 to 8 weeks, including candidate mapping, multiple interview rounds, and offer finalization.
Executive searches start with a conversation.
There's no intake form for executive search. Reach out directly and we'll schedule a call to understand the mandate before anything else happens. All initial conversations are confidential.
